This is a vertical slice prototype. It features real-time combatarmy AI, and a core gameplay loop. Essentially, you build an army of AI-controlled characters to fight hordes of goblins. Overall it has about 50 minutes of gameplay.

How to play:

  1. WASD to move, J to attack, and K to interact with objects and NPCs
  2. Eating apples heal a small amount of health
  3. Mobs heal over time when their hunger is above 80%
  4. Mobs glow red when their health is below 50%

Known issues:

  1. Followers sometimes get stuck in narrow doorways and passages.
  2. Mobs may run into traps (repeatedly).
  3. Archer attack cycles are sometimes irregular.

  1. Use hit and run tactics. Pull mobs away from their group to make them easier to deal with.
  2. Archers don't do much damage, but try to take them out quickly.
  3. Hire followers. They draw enemies away from you and will make fighting large groups much easier.
  4. Keep your followers alive. Mobs will eat apples if they see them nearby. There is an apple orchard to the west of the village.

Great Game !

Thank you!

This game is quite fun and looks very promising. I might recommend that the player not have collision with the allied AI as you can easily become stuck in areas such as doorways. I will keep my eye on this game as I enjoy rts style game play and I am curious to see what else will be added.

Thanks for trying it, Calgerot!

Great point about villager collision. I find myself feeling nervous about going inside buildings because I'm afraid my followers will trap me in there! I like having collision because it gives character more presence in the game world. But I will add the ability for characters to push each other around so that the player doesn't get stuck.

Next steps in my roadmap include items/inventory and character customization. Ultimately I want to create an open-world sandbox. I want to procedurally generate elven villages, dwarven fortresses... NPC kingdoms and cultures. Army combat will always be a big part of the game, but there will also be areas where it's better for the hero to explore alone like dungeons in the Legend of Zelda. I'm also thinking of using chatGPT to generate stories and NPC behaviors, similar to this Stanford prototype.

Ambitious, haha. Work has been picking up and keeping me busy. But if there's enough interest in this game, I can try putting together a Kickstarter.

Very fun game :)

I like how easy it is to control the hero, build an army, and the strategy require to beat the goblins. There are many secrets hidden within

If you find that the game is lagging, you can also try downloading the latest version here: Download Goblin Menace

You can add separate uploads on itch that will show up beneath the app, better than trying to share a google drive around ;)

Fun game other than the lag on webgl! enjoyed getting my little posse together and bashing some goblins.  Idk if I like how the hunger works, i guess it's to make it costly to keep a large army.

Lovely prototype, keep it up!

Thanks Ben!

Great point, haha, using native download links would be better than sharing a Google Drive :P I'll look into that!

You're right, the current game could probably do away with the hunger mechanic. My thinking was to add some survival mechanics like eating food and camping out in the woods with your friends. I'd like to add farming and other business/shopkeeping simulations at some point.

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to share your feedback!
